Waters of Landscape

The visual appeal of the natural landscape is central to our human psyche. Water is an essential part of the landscape and our continued existence. We are largely composed of water. Not surprising, our fascination with bodies of water comes naturally.
Coastal seashores, inland rivers, lakes and ponds represent a notable subject in landscapes. Often it provides a very pleasing complement to other beauty found in natural scenes. Memories of these waters can stay with us for a lifetime. The roaring seas and breaking waves at the beach for the first time a child, for example. The cover image was taken in the coastal port of Vancouver, British Columbia more than forty years ago. The foggy weather conjures up feelings about the safety of the fishermen who are now in a protected cove away from the dangers of rough seas.

Shown above are the beaches of Hilton Head Island South Carolina. An inviting landscape where one can easily imagine the wind blowing and the soft white sand under one’s feet. Another example of a spectacular body of water comes from South Texas (shown below). The sandy beaches of Padre Island was experiencing building waves and stormy conditions. Two boys with few cares in the world delight in the experience.
